Daily Habit That Makes You More Productive
My phone was a graveyard of half-finished to-do lists and screaming alarms. Every morning used to be the same: I’d wake up, grab my phone, and immediately drown in other people’s agendas—emails, news, social media. By 9:00 AM, my brain already felt like a browser with fifty tabs open. I was working twelve hours a day, yet finishing nothing.
I was exhausted, until I decided to try something that felt almost too simple to work.
Yesterday morning, I woke up at 7:00 AM. My hand instinctively reached for the phone on the nightstand, but I stopped. I pulled it back. Instead, I sat on the edge of my bed and grabbed a plain, cheap notebook and a black pen.
I didn’t write a long list of goals. I didn’t journal about my feelings. I did the one thing that changed my entire output for the day: I wrote down my “One Big Move.”
I asked myself, “If I could only accomplish one single thing today to feel successful, what would it be?” I ignored the small chores. I ignored the busy work. I wrote down that one daunting project I had been avoiding for weeks. Just one sentence.
Then, I did the most important part: I left my phone in the drawer and walked straight to my desk. I didn’t check the weather. I didn’t check my texts. I gave that “One Big Move” my first sixty minutes of the day.
By 8:30 AM, while the rest of the world was still scrolling through their notifications, I had already finished my most difficult task. The heavy weight that usually sits on my shoulders was gone. The rest of the day felt like a downhill slide.
I realized that productivity isn’t about doing more things; it’s about doing the right thing before the world has a chance to distract you. Now, my phone stays silent until my “Move” is done. I’m working less, but for the first time in years, I’m actually moving forward.
